Spoon – Out Go The Lights

Through the cracks in the wall I saw you. Frightened and unadorned. I wanted to comfort you. Help you re-collect. Gather. But you were busy counting imaginary fireflies. They would disappear every time you turned the lights on. Lights off. Lights on.
There was a time when we would converse through this wall. You would tap once. I would reciprocate twice. I just lay on the bed. And listened to your ideas about loneliness and self-assurance. You uttered glorious, seething, painful words. They could have been lyrics to a great rock n roll song.
